SRINAGAR — Police officer-turned-politician Tsering Gyalpo Tuesday resigned from the basic membership of BJP in Union Territory of Ladakh.
Gyalpo, in a letter to party president JP Nadda, states that he is resigning from the party and the basic membership in support to his leader Chering Dorjey who has also tendered his resignation.
Confirming the development, Tsering Gyalpo said over phone that he supports every word of his leader Chering Dorjey. He said that representatives of people have lost importance while those who barely know ‘ABC’ of Ladakh region are at the helm of affairs.
“It is very unfortunate that once powerful Hill Development Councils have lost say and nobody take them seriously,” he said.
Tsering Gyalpo also alleged that the UT administration mishandled the situation when locals of Ladakh got stranded outside due to Coronavirus. “No serious efforts were made to bring back the stranded pilgrims to Ladakh. The administration didn’t take people seriously while politicians have lost sheen and credibility, ever since, Ladakh was made a Union Territory,” he said.
He said stranded pilgrims were not brought back to region in time as a result of which two women died in Jodhpur quarantine centre.
Gyalpo said that he is pained to see the plight of people of Ladakh in different parts of India and abroad on social media while little has been done by UT administration for the people.
