Two polling agents booked for destroying ballot papers in Poonch

POONCH — Two polling agents were booked for allegedly destroying ballot papers during the Phase-IV of election at Balakote in Poonch district.

Official sources said on Tuesday that Police Station Gursai received an application from presiding officer, Mohammad Ismael of polling station Keri of DDC constituency Balakote, marked by SSP Poonch, that on December 13 at GHS Keri, two persons, Gafoor Ahmad, agent of Rabia Younis Khan and Wahidullah Khan, polling agent of Saima Khan (independent candidates), attacked on the polling staff and snatched the ballot papers in order to cast “bogus votes”.

They were also accused of tearing out the ballot paper and other polling material.

After doing this, the official said that the duo fled from the spot. In this connection, a case (FIR No. 94/2020) under Section 132, 135, 136 Representation of People’s Act and Section 342, 353, 323, 504 IPC has been registered.

When contacted, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral confirmed it and said that further investigations have been taken up.
