SRINAGAR — Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir Tuesday inaugurated the Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament organized by the varsity’s Department of Students Welfare (DSW) at Gadoora here.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir emphasized the importance of sports in the overall growth and development of the youth.
He said that the university would make every possible effort to encourage students’ participation in different sports activities organized at local and national level. He further said that state-of-the-art sports infrastructure would be set up at the Tulmulla Campus of the university.
Registrar Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, Principal Government Physical College of Education Prof. Hartej Singh, Dean Department of Students Welfare Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Sports In-charge Mr. Tasleem Arif and Assistant Professor Dr. Muzamil Ahmad Shah were present during the inaugural function.
Twenty cricket teams of different departments are participating in the T20 knockout tournament, during which one match will be played each day. The tournament is being organized to select players for the university’s cricket team.
Besides teams from different departments, two teams of non-teaching employees and research scholars are also participating in the event.
