India, Pakistan set up Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket final

NISSHIN — India and Pakistan will meet in the men’s cricket final of the Asian Games 2026 after both teams won their respective semifinals in Nisshin, Japan, on Thursday.

Defending champions India secured their place in the final with a 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second semifinal.

India posted 169 for seven after Ishan Kishan scored an unbeaten 80, before their bowlers dismissed Sri Lanka for 45.

Kishan’s unbeaten 80 came off 46 balls and formed the mainstay of India’s innings as they set Sri Lanka a target of 170.

Sri Lanka struggled in the chase and were bowled out for 45, giving India a comprehensive victory and a place in the gold-medal match.

Earlier, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in the rain-affected first semifinal to qualify for the final.

Bangladesh posted 111 for seven in a match reduced to 13 overs per side, before Pakistan chased down the target with four wickets in hand.

The result set up an India-Pakistan final in the men’s Asian Games cricket competition for the first time.

The gold-medal match is scheduled to be played on October 3 at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.

India are the defending Asian Games men’s cricket champions, having won the gold medal at the Hangzhou Games after the event was held in 2023.
