SRINAGAR — New Zealand managed to win the first semi-final against India and entered into the finals of Cricket World Cup 2019 where they have to play either against Australia or England. The second semi-final will be played tomorrow between Australia and the hosts.
New Zealand started their game poorly as they lost early wicket of Martin Guptill and then Henry Nicholls. However, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor played superbly and completed their half centuries.
The play was stopped due to rain when 46th over was being bowled. Consequently, the play was suspended and moved into the reserve day. As play resumed today, Kiwis managed to score 239-8 in 50 overs.
India, in reply, did not start well. They lost three top order batsmen for just 5 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni played well but couldn’t help India to win the match.
This is the second time in a row for New Zealand to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup final. However, they were beaten by Australia in the CWC final in 2015.
It is pertinent to mention India have never defeated New Zealand in World Cup matches. Also, this was the first ever knock-out match played on a reserve day after the persistent rain did not allow any further play.
