Srinagar: Terming as surprising and unfortunate the revelations of the state home department, the Hurriyat Conference (G) on Wednesday said the chief minister Omar Abdullah’s announcement on general amnesty are a hoax. In a statement the Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said the announcement of general amnesty made by Omar Abdullah on the occasion of Eid in 2011 remained confined to papers only. “Not a single youth out of 55034 arrested during 2010 mass movement has been brought under the general amnesty and the cases registered against them in the police stations have not been withdrawn till date,” he said, adding that these statements are only made to give an impression that everything is normal in Jammu Kashmir. “But the fact remains that pro-movement people are arrested and detained in jails under the draconian laws. Restrictions are imposed on the political activities of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the government is not ready to give him any space,” he said.
