Kashmir issue has been pushed to background: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman

Islamabad: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) and Pakistan Parliamentary Kashmir Committee chairman Moulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Wednesday said Kashmiris have reservations over granting of the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India by Pakistan.
“It is due to our wrong policies that Kashmir issue has been pushed to background. As far as giving India the status of Most Favoured Nation is concerned, Kashmiris have some reservations vis-à-vis this matter. We have not till date briefed the Kashmiri leadership about it. Despite the assurances of the minister for commerce, Kashmiris have been not been taken into confidence. The sectarian incidents have negative impact on Tehreek-i-Kashmir,” said Moulana Fazl-ur-Rehman while addressing a press conference after attending a general council meeting of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK).
He said Pakistan should take a firm stand on construction of dams by India on the rivers as otherwise it (Pakistan) would be rendered paralysed in the fields of agriculture and industry. “India will take advantage of our weakness in the field of agriculture and industry and it will dictate terms and conditions to us on any trade which will never be in our interest,” he said, adding that the European Union was building pressure on Pakistan that it should as a member of WTO do trade with India. “But the European Union should take note of it that India is building dams on rivers in violation of international laws,” he said.
