New Delhi wants to become big military power: Geelani

Srinagar: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday expressed serious concern over the allocation of Rs 30000 Crore for defence by New Delhi, saying that this all is being done to become number one country in the world with heavy weapons in its arsenal.
“Allocation of huge part of budget for defence expenditures betrays New Delhi’s designs for territorial aggrandizement. This country wants to show its military supremacy in the region and overawe its neighbouring country. By allocating huge budget for defence related expenditure is like to create further tension in the south Asia,” said Geelani, adding that “New Delhi was least bothered about the welfare of its people. On one hand, it spends so much on military expenditure, on the other, the fact remains that 25 lakh people in this country die of hunger annually.”
