Over 60 injured in drone attack in Israel

NEW DELHI — More than 60 people were injured, several critically, in a drone attack in northern Israel, according to first responders, making it one of the bloodiest incidents since the conflict began last October. The attack, reported by CNN, followed a strike claimed by the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah.

Hezbollah announced that it had launched a swarm of attack drones on an Israeli Golani infantry training camp in Binyamina, south of Haifa, as retaliation for Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on Thursday. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that those strikes killed 22 people and injured 117.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday that it intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle launched from Lebanon but did not disclose the specific target location.

United Hatzalah, a rescue service in Israel, confirmed that it had assisted over 60 injured people, some of whom were in critical condition. “Helicopters and ambulances evacuated all the wounded,” the organization said.

Hospitals across Israel are treating the injured. Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in north-central Israel reported it was handling 36 casualties from what it described as a “UAV incident.”

The Golani Brigade, an infantry unit of the IDF, has been active in southern Lebanon, although CNN noted it could not confirm whether the drone directly hit the IDF camp.
