SHOPIAN — An apple orchard in Kiloora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district was allegedly vandalised by unidentified miscreants during the night, with several fruit-bearing trees reportedly felled, causing financial losses to the affected family.
According to the family, several apple trees carrying ripe fruit were deliberately damaged and felled with long sticks under the cover of darkness.
The incident has caused distress to the family as the apple harvesting season is currently underway.
The orchard is owned by Zahoor Ahmad, a resident of Kiloora, according to the family.
The family has urged the authorities to launch an immediate investigation, identify those responsible and take strict legal action against the perpetrators.
It said the damage to fruit-bearing trees had resulted in financial losses at a time when growers were engaged in harvesting their produce.
