SRINAGAR — Two militants were killed and a civilian was injured after contact was re-established between government forces and militants in Mir Mohalla in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning.
Official sources said that two local militants were killed in Mir Mohalla after forces blasted the house and razed it to the ground.
If sources are to be believed, both the slain militants are local and were affiliated with Hizb. Both the slain have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Rather (joining date: 17-11-2017) resident of Shariefabad and Adfar Fayaz (joining date: 06-07-2018) resident of Gulshanpora Tral.
During exchange of firing, one civilian also received a bullet wound on his thigh. He has been identified as Farooq Ahmad (45). He was rushed to SMHS hospital Srinagar for advanced treatment and is said to be stable.
A senior Police officer also confirmed the killing of two militants and said that search operation is still on. “So far, we have recovered two bodies of militants along with two AK47s,” he said.
Earlier, a senior Police officer said, “Yesterday after initial brief exchange of firing, there was long lull but we had tightened the cordon and sealed all the exit routes of the area.”
The officer further said that due to darkness, the operation was suspended and as soon the first ray of light came, the forces again started searches near the suspected spot. The hiding militants fired upon government forces, triggering again an encounter, the officer said. (GNS)
