SHOPIAN — Four militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Pinjura area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
According to the reports, a joint team of Police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Pinjura.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering an encounter.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar (IPS) said that four militants were killed in the operation which, according to him, was clean and swift. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Pertinently, just 24 hours before, five Hizb militants were killed in Reban area of Shopian district.
With the latest killings, as many as nine militants have been killed in a span of two days in the Valley’s southern district.
