
SRINAGAR — A 22-year-old youth died after drowning in Jhelum river tributary in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.
Reports reaching here said that one Yawar Ahmad Narchoor (22) son of Javid Ahmad Narchoor, a resident of Ashajipora had taken to the water body for bath at Bange Nowgam area of the district this evening when the incident occured.
Soon after the news spread, rescue teams were rushed to the spot by the administration. An hour into the operations, as per the reports, youth was recovered and evacuated to Government Medical College Anantnag, however the doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
Confirming the death, Medical Superintendent Anantnag, Doctor Majeed Mehrab said that the youth has purportedly died due to asphyxiation.
A police official, meanwhile, said that the body of the deceased youth has been handed over to the family after conducting medico-legal formalities.
