JAMMU — Four army personnel were killed and six injured on Monday when militants ambushed their vehicle in the remote Machhedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, officials said.
The militants hurled a grenade and opened fire targeting Army vehicles which were on a routine patrol on the Machhedi-Kindli-Malhar road at around 3:30 pm near Badnota village in Lohai Malhar, 150 km from Kathua town.
Security forces retaliated but the militants fled into the nearby forest, the officials said, adding an intermittent exchange of firing was going on between the militants and security forces when the last reports were received.
On Saturday, at least six militants were killed and two soldiers laid down their lives in twin encounters in Frisal Chinnigam and Modergam areas of Kulgam district. Officials said contact with militants was established during a cordon and search operation in the area.
