SRINAGAR — All schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, except in the border districts that were closed due to heightened tensions, will reopen from Tuesday.
The announcement of reopening of educational institutions was made by J&K Minister of School and Higher Education, Sakina Itoo.
“All schools and colleges to reopen from tomorrow in non-border districts of Jammu as well as Kashmir,” she said.
In Kashmir, the schools will remain closed in the twin districts of Baramulla, Kupwara and the Sub-Division Gurez of Bandipora.
“All schools to open tomorrow on 13th of May 2025, except border districts of Kupwara, Baramulla and Sub-Division Gurez of Bandipora,” Director School Education Kashmir said.
Similarly, Divisional Commissioner Jammu said that after reviewing the situation, the Education Department has decided to reopen the non-border districts’ educational institutions, while the border districts will continue with the closure of the educational institutions.
J&K Government ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities for two days as a precautionary measure on May 8, following the sharp escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan.
The decision came in the wake of strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), as part of Operation Sindoor, carried out by the Indian Army in the early hours of Wednesday.
Tensions escalated after Pakistan resorted to retaliatory firing of missiles and drones into India, with some hitting the border districts.
