GNM College Pulwama students protest against inadequate teaching staff

SRINAGAR — Students of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) College Pulwama staged a protest outside Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Pulwama’s office, demanding adequate teaching staff for their college. The protesting students blocked the road, but dispersed peacefully after the assurance from the local SHO to convey their demands to the concerned authorities.

According to reports, dozens of students studying in the college, who are anguished over the lack of staff in the college, assembled outside CMO Office in Pulwama with placards in their hands while raising slogans against the college authorities for inadequate teaching staff in the college.

They said that the college staff at the moment comprises of only three members, which include college principal and a teacher, besides a clerk.

They said, “How is it possible for a single teacher to take 9 classes of more than 150 students?”

“The insensitivity of the authorities towards providing proper teaching staff has put a question mark on our future”, they added.

The protesting students were complaining that for the last eight months, they have been moving from pillar to post to impress upon the authorities to solve their problem, but “all our pleas have fallen to deaf ears.”

They added that they have approached Director Health Services a number of times and also the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, but to no avail. They further said, “Frustrated by the ignorance of our problems, we have no other alternative except to come on roads and block the traffic to register our protest”.

The protesting students called off their protest after the concerned Tehsildar and SHO reached the spot and assured them that they will convey their grievances to the concerned authorities.
