Srinagar, March 27: Students who recently appeared for entrance examination of various streams in University of Kashmir have alleged the presence of ‘out of context and syllabus’ questions, giving them sleepless nights. Meanwhile, the University has ordered re-examination of Master of Social Work paper while the grievances of other students are still pending.
The aspirants from various streams including Zoology, Botany, Social Work, Arabic and Statistics have given their representation to Dean Academic Affairs alleging that the paper setters had violated all the norms of paper setting.
A University official told a local news agency CNS that he is sure that University may go for re-examination of other subjects especially Zoology as the students have proved that their paper was out of syllabus.
Kashmir University Entrance Examinations commenced on March 8 and it will conclude tomorrow, March 28. For odd 1000 seats, at least 37,000 students from different subjects are taking these Entrance Examinations.
This is for the first time that students from dozens of streams have given their representation to Dean Academic Affairs, Professor Ali Mohammad Shah complaining that paper setters have not only played with their career but have also tortured them mentally.
“I was aghast when I saw the examination paper. Nothing was according to syllabus. I tried my best to concentrate but I found questions which I had never learnt,” Shazia Hassan, a student of Social Work told CNS adding that all the students are happy that University has agreed upon to take our examination once again.
Another student from Zoology, Irshad Ahmed said that they have already given a representation and hopefully re-examination of their subject will take place.
Students from Arabic, Botany, Statistics and other subjects claimed that paper setters have played with the career of students. “In our representations we have maintained that such paper setters should be black-listed. We feel that these paper-setters have failed to go through the syllabus of their respective subjects,” Fayaz Ahmed said.
A University official said that it is a serious matter. “The University is the highest seat of learning and such things should not be tolerated. There is no place for such mistakes and strict action should be taken against the erring Professors,” he said.
“If you check University official website you will yourself see how many questions have been cancelled in various subjects after receiving complaints from students. It clearly reflects the inefficiency of paper setters,” a student said.
When contacted, Dean Academic Affairs, Professor Ali Mohammad Shah confirmed to CNS that some mistakes have occurred and they have taken care of that. “When students complained about this matter, we take cognizance and we have already ordered for re-examination of a subject while we have set up an expert committee to decide about the Zoology and other subjects,” Shah said adding that whenever we find any teacher guilty we take action against him.
Shah further said that they trust a teacher and never expect anything untoward from them. “Still when we find anything wrong in teachers, we surely take action against them,” he said.
