AIMSA flags disparity in postgraduate stipends across J&K medical institutions

SRINAGAR — The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has raised concerns over what it described as a significant disparity in postgraduate stipends in Jammu and Kashmir compared with other states, as well as differences between stipends paid at SKIMS and government medical colleges across the Union Territory.

Dr Mohit Choudhary, Chief Advisor of AIMSA and a postgraduate resident at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, said the disparity had raised concerns among postgraduate residents regarding equitable compensation for their work and services.

AIMSA has urged Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo and the Jammu and Kashmir Government to examine the issue and address the differences in postgraduate stipends.

The association has called for a fair and equitable stipend structure for postgraduate residents working in government medical institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.

It said the demand came in the context of postgraduate residents undertaking clinical duties and other responsibilities as part of their medical training.

AIMSA has sought government intervention to review the existing stipend structure and ensure that postgraduate residents are treated equitably across institutions.
