SRINAGAR — Irtiqa Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has strongly refuted claims that cats cause abortions or miscarriages, urging people not to abandon their pets based on misinformation.
Reacting to a recent statement by an expert who linked cats to pregnancy complications, Irtiqa termed the claim as “unfortunate” and misleading. She, as per the news agency KNT, emphasized that the real issue lies in poor hygiene and unsafe living conditions rather than the presence of cats.
“Stay informed, stay clean, and don’t blame innocent animals!” she said, highlighting that more than 90% of Toxoplasmosis cases stem from unhygienic practices rather than cats.
Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection, is often wrongly associated with feline transmission. However, health experts suggest that the primary sources of infection are contaminated food, unwashed vegetables, and improper handling of raw meat.
She urged people to prioritize hygiene and scientific awareness instead of spreading fear about domestic animals.
