Srinagar: A Kashmiri engineering student of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jangeeri was allegedly beaten by some ‘goons’ at TDI City.

The student identified as Mubashir Matto was taken to nearby hospital for treatment after he was allegedly beaten at a rented flat during night time at TDI City of Chandigarh.

He said, “Some goons knocked me down and started punching on my face and stomach and hitting on my knees. They thrashed me with iron rods and knives. I was beaten to pulp.”

“I tried to escape from my flat but I could not,” he added. “We are being threatened, beaten for no reason. Our only problem is that we are Kashmiri,” he said.

Several Kashmiri students who are friends of Mubashir said that they approached the police in this regard.

A police official from the concerned police station, Mahender Singh said, “We have taken cognizance of the incident and investigation is currently underway.”

The Kashmiri students complained that they were being continuously harassed by the local students, which creates apprehensions of further attacks on them.

Meanwhile, parents of the Kashmiri students urged the state government to intervene in this regard to ensure safety of their children in Chandigarh. (KNS)
