
DODA — At least 13 people were killed and 15 others sustained injuries, 4 of them critical, after a mini-bus skidded off the road and rolled down a gorge in Doda area of Jammu on Thursday morning.
The incident was reported from Sui-Gowari area of Doda while the bus was on its way from Doda to Thathri.
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vikas Sharma told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the mini-bus suffered extensive damage while several passengers died on the spot. He said some injured passengers are being airlifted to Jammu Medical College for advanced treatment.
An eyewitness told the police that the driver of the bus (JK17-4021) probably lost control over the vehicle and it fell from the mountainous slope into the gorge.
Local sources said that at least 13 passengers have died while a child is still missing. The efforts to trace the missing child is underway. They said that 15 passengers have sustained injuries while four of them are critical.
Political leaders cutting across party lines expressed grief over the tragic accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office in a tweet said: “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident in Jammu and Kashmir. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”
