Hideout busted in Ramban, arms, ammo recovered: Police

RAMBAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a militant hideout in Ramban and said that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

A police spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency KNO said that information was received through reliable sources regarding the presence of a cache of arms, ammunition, and related material in the far-flung forest area of Tehsil Khari of district Ramban.

“Acting swiftly on the input, a joint search operation by J&K Police and 23 RR of Army was launched in the forest area and suspected hideout locations were searched which continued till evening during which security forces busted a suspected militant hideout and arms and ammunition among other things were recovered from the spot,” the statement said.

The arms and ammunition recovered from the hideout include AK-47 rounds – 310 (rusted condition), 9mm rounds 30 (rusted condition), one 9mm Magazine, AK-47 magazines six (rusted condition), one grenade, one tape recorder (rusted), one handset with antenna (rusted condition), two cassettes, three battery terminals, one negatives photo film (rusted/damaged), five pencil cells, one plastic can (broken/rusted), one pocket diary, one roll of copper wire (damaged), one blade and one bennet.

In this regard, a case under FIR number 237/2022 under section 7/25 Arms act and Sec 4 Explosives Substances Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and an investigation has been taken up, it said.
