Ramban Mishap: Toll surges as missing person’s body found

JAMMU — Body of a missing person has been found, taking the death toll in the accident in Ramban district to five, officials said.

Six persons were travelling in a vehicle when it skidded off the road and rolled down into a river in Ramban district on early Saturday.

They said passenger cab—Innova (J02BA-1707)—was on way to Jammu from Srinagar when it met the accident near Digdol on Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world.

Four travellers died on the spot and their bodies were recovered while one person—Ajeet Kumar son of Kuldeep Kumar of Billawar IRP 3rd battalion—was rescued in injured condition and later hospitalized by rescuers comprising locals, police and members of QRT Ramban.

The deceased has been identified by officials as Garu Ram son of Hans Raj, a resident of Talab Tillo, Jammu, Vaneet Kour daughter of JP Singh of Gupkar Srinagar, Shagun Kumar of Kangra, a Head Constable of 73bn CRPF, Mohammad Rafi son of Lal ud Din Gujjar of Balkot Uri of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and Sanjeev Kumar son of Rikhi Ram, a follower of IRP 16th battalion, a resident of Mari Poni village of Reasi district.

Confirming it, SHO Ramban, Padeep Sharma said that a case has been filed in this connection.
