Two militants from Pulwama arrested in Poonch

Poonch: Police and Army on Wednesday arrested two “militants” from Pulwama in Surankote area in Poonch district of Jammu region.

“Based on a specific information, one Tavera (JK01R-5936) which was coming from Mendhar and going to Surankote was intercepted by SOG Poonch headed by DSP and 25RR of Army near Jaranwali Gali Surankote,” a police officer said.

The driver of the car and a person travelling in it were detained, he said, adding, after sustained interrogation they turned out to be militants identified as Shabir Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Kakapora Pulwama and Mohammad Aqib, also resident of Kakapora Pulwama.

“During the search, two AK 56 rifles and two magazines were recovered from both,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources said that they have dropped five militants in Jaranwali Gali and they are carrying black bags.

Following the disclosure, they said, a massive search operation has been launched in Jaranwali Gali, Kali, Gursai and Pathanateer village to nab the suspected militants.

The police officer said that it could be a part of militant plan to disturb upcoming Panchayat elections. (GNS)
