11 vehicles seized in Pulwama for illegal extraction of minerals

AWANTIPORA — Acting tough against the elements involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, the Police in Awantipora area of Pulwama district have arrested 11 persons and seized 11 vehicles involved in the commission of the crime.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said that Police Station Khrew received information about the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals at Raswat and Mandakpal.

“Accordingly, a police party from Police Station Khrew headed by SHO PS Khrew Inspector Manzoor Ahmad conducted the raids on specific locations and seized 11 vehicles (tippers) loaded with illegally extracted stones and arrested 11 persons on the spot,” the statement said, adding that they have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.

Meanwhile, a case FIR No. 19/2023 and 20/2023 under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Khrew and an investigation was set into motion.

“Persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt with as per the law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units,” it read.
