‘Absconder’ held after two decades in Awantipora: J-K Police

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police in Awantipora on Thursday claimed to have arrested an absconder who was evading his arrest for the last 20 years.

“Police received a non-bailable warrant from the Court of Principal Session Judge Pulwama against an accused namely Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohd Bhat, resident of Reshipora who was evading his arrest from last 20 years, involved in case FIR No. 96/1997 of Police Station Awantipora,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency KNO.

Accordingly, a special team under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora was constituted and the accused person was arrested from Reshipora area. Subsequently, the arrested accused was produced before the hon’ble court of law. The court of law ordered to lodge the said absconder in District Sub-Jail Pulwama, police said.

“Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police have resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal activities,” the spokesman said.
