Al-Badr hybrid militant arrested in Batamaloo Srinagar: Police

SRINAGAR — Police on Saturday said that a “hybrid” militant affiliated with Al-Badr militant organisation was arrested by its “small team” in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.

A police spokesperson said that acting on “specific intelligence”, a small team of Police arrested the militant identified as Arfat Yusuf son of Mohammad Yusuf Khan of Rajpora Pulwama from Batamaloo area of Srinagar. “Incriminating materials along with arms and ammunition including a pistol, 20 live rounds, two magazines have been recovered from his possession.”

Preliminary investigation, he said, reveals that he has been involved in militancy-related activities in South Kashmir Range and had come to Srinagar with the “nefarious designs & was arrested before he could execute any (militant) attack.”

He said pertinent to mention here that he was involved in throwing grenades at a CRPF vehicle in Rajpora and at CRPF/RR camp at Hawal, Rajpora Pulwama (FIR number 61/22; dated 14/08/2022 already registered). Besides, he said, he was also involved in pasting posters of Lone Wolf Warrior on March 10 and 26. “Several cases have already been registered against him,” he said.

He said, “A case vide FIR number 94/2023 under sections 13, 23 of ULAP Act and 7/25 of IA Act stands registered at Police Station Batamaloo.”
