Al-Badr militant killed in Tral refused to surrender: Police

SRINAGAR — An Al-Badr militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Machoma Tral area of south Kashmir’s Awantipora on Thursday.

A senior Police officer said that in the initial exchange of firing, one militant of Al-Badr identified as Irfan Ahmad Dar, resident of Gadikal was killed. He had joined the outfit on August 20 this year.

The police officer further said that a civilian was brought to the encounter site to persuade the hiding militant, however he refused to surrender.

Earlier, according to the reports reaching here, a joint team of Police and Army’s 42 RR launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Machoma Tral.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.
