Army distributes cash & kind among people in Kupwara


KUPWARA — Army on Monday distributed cash and kind among the civilians affected by cross border shelling in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Pertinently, three civilians including a woman and a child were killed in the shelling yesterday. These include 8-year-old Ziyan Ahmed of Tumana Kupwara, 18-year-old Javaid Ahmed Khan of Chowkibal Kupwara and 36-year-old woman Shameema Begum of Chowkibal. A couple of vehicles and residential houses also suffered damage in the shelling.

An official said that on the directions of 7 Sector, soldiers from 15 Rashtriya Rifles headed by Commanding Officer Abhishek Singh distributed relief among the affected civilians.

Gunbattle rages in Handwara

A cash assistance of Rs 30,000 were provided to the families of slain while Rs 5,000 were given to other affected persons. Army also distributed clothes and other items among affected people.
