SRINAGAR — Army on Saturday evening pulled and dragged an Alto driver out of his car and started thrashing him ruthlessly with sticks and butt-stocks of AK-47 at Nowgam Chowk.

When a few policemen posted at the Chowk tried to intervene, Army pushed them away with force.

The eyewitness namely Izat Amin Mughal said that the Army men tried to push the driver – a young boy – into the Army vehicle, although he was repeatedly begging them for mercy despite not being guilty.

Meanwhile, Izat who was present on the spot rescued the youth from the clutches of the Army.

The local residents are anguished over the incident and have demanded FIR against the Army men involved in beating the young boy.

After rescuing the boy from the clutches of Army, Izat Amin wrote on his Facebook wall, “Undoubtedly, it was mere hooliganism from the side of the Army. It is high time for authorities to inculcate right lesson to Army soldiers on the streets.”

The social media users have widely appreciated the courage of Izat Amin Mughal for saving the boy.

Earlier on October 23, same incident happened at Rawalpora Chowk on same highway in which two youth were thrashed to “pulp without any reason or rhyme” which later had sparked protests in the area.

When contacted, Army spokesperson Rajesh Kalia termed the claims as baseless and denied involvement of any Army personnel in thrashing of the civilian (Alto driver).
