SRINAGAR — A policeman, who was injured in a chance encounter between militants and security forces in Nowhatta area of Srinagar city last night, has succumbed to his injuries on Monday afternoon, police said here.

On the microblogging site Twitter, a J&K Police spokesman said, “Police personnel who was injured during the chance encounter yesterday succumbed to his injuries.”

“Police personnel namely Ct Sarfaraz Ahmad, resident of Batote Ramban who was injured yesterday during an anti-terrorist operation, succumbed to his injuries & attained martyrdom,” the police said.

“We pay rich tributes to the martyr for his supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty,” the Kashmir Police Zone added.

The police also said that a person was arrested for providing a second-hand Scooty to active militant Momin Gulzar on August 27. “Further public is also informed not to extend logistics to militants, failing which law will take its own course,” the police said.

“One Umer Mukhtar Naqeeb son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Natipora, arrested for providing a 2nd hand scooty to active terrorist Momin Gulzar on 27.07.2022,” the police said, adding that this Scooty along with arms, ammunition, explosives, clothes and other incriminating material was recovered yesterday after the chance encounter.

The police urged the public not to extend logistics to ‘terrorists’, failing which law will take its own course. “Further, public especially hospitals, clinics and doctors are requested to give information about any unknown person coming for treatment as fleeing terrorists are injured,” the police said.
