Pulwama: A policeman was injured in a firing incident at Murran Chowk in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Pulwama, Rayees Mohammad Bhat told that a police party was constituted to apprehend the burglars who made an abortive bid to strike at the State Bank of India (ATM) machine in Murran Chowk last night.
Soon after the police team led by the concerned Station House Officer reached the scene of crime and were taking finger prints at the ATM machine, suddenly some unknown gunmen fired few shots upon them, resulting in injuries to one of the investigating cop. “The fire was retaliated by the party,” he said.
The injured cop, identified as HC Mohammad Shafi, was taken to nearby hospital where from he was referred to Bone and Joint hospital here in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Soon after the incident, Army, police and CRPF have cordoned off the area and its adjoining villages and have launched a hunt to nab the assailants.
No one was arrested when reports last came in while searches in the area were going on.
