Pulwama: Authorities have taken cognizance of the news report about a restaurant owner in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district fleecing customers at will.

Locals had alleged that the owner of ‘Hilal Restaurant’ located near General Bus Stand Pulwama is providing food stuff on exorbitant rates.

“For a bottle of water with price tag of Rs 19, the restaurant owner charges Rs 11 extra and demands Rs 30 for that. He is doing it with impunity as concerned department is in deep slumber. It’s not the water only that he sells at high rate but every item in the restaurant comes at a high price,” the locals had alleged.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan on Wednesday issued a formal order asking Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to inspect the said restaurant.

The formal order issued by Divisional Commissioner read: “This office is in receipt of complaint from the public of Pulwama against one Hotel Hilal and Restaurant opposite Bus Stand, Pulwama alleging therein that he is fleecing the customers at will and charging exorbitant rates.”

“It has been alleged that a bottle of water with a price tag of Rs 19, he is charging Rs 11 extra. Similarly, other food stuffs are also being charged highly exorbitant rates. The complainants have also alleged that the matter was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner but nothing has been done nor any verification has been conducted,” the order further read.

“You are directed to immediately take cognizance of this complaint and take necessary action by deputing a team to the said restaurant by tomorrow. Results of the inspection so conducted be shared with this office in two days’ time,” the order reads. (CNS)
