Eight civilians injured as grenade lobbed in Tral

PULWAMA — At least eight civilians including a septuagenarian were injured after suspected militants hurled a grenade towards government forces in Tral town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Police sources said that militants hurled a grenade upon the bunker of 16 Battalion SSB B-Coy near bus stand Tral that falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Tral. The grenade missed the target and exploded with a bang, leaving eight civilians injured.

All the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.

An official identified the injured as Javid Ahmad Ganai (35) of Tral, Wali Muhammad Rather (45) of Paneer Tral, septuagenarian Muhammad Abdullah of Hakim of Tral, 25-year-old Tabish, 26-year-old lady Shahzada, both residents of Pastuna Tral, Taja Begum (65) of Amirabad Tral, Shaheena (24) of Pastuna Tral and 30-year-old Bilal Ahmed Naik of Tral Payeen.

The area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched, however, no arrests were made.
