Erratic power supply irks inhabitants in Pulwama villages

SRINAGAR — Inhabitants of several villages in south Kashmir’s Pulwama are up in arms against Power Development Department over unscheduled power cuts following recent snowfall in the Valley.

A local delegation said that despite the Power Development Department claiming to have fully restored electricity, several villages are, however, facing intermittent power cuts for almost a week now.

The areas facing frequent power cuts in the district include Tehsil and main town Pampore besides Panzgama, Chokura, Zahid Bagh, Gulzarpora, Beighpora.

The other areas include Awantipora and Drumbul, Hajin, Panaad villages in Tral.

“The power supply to the areas was snapped soon after it started snowing, however despite improvement in weather conditions, we continue to witness frequent power outages,” they said.

“We are facing immense hardships in absence of this basic facility even after paying our bills on time,” the delegation members said.

Maintaining that they approached the department concerned on various occasions, the locals said that “to our utter dismay, nothing significant has been done in this regard so far.”

Meanwhile, the delegation members have urged District administration as well as Executive Engineer, PDD concerned to restore the electricity to its full strength so as to mitigate the sufferings of hundreds of households in these areas.
