SRINAGAR — Continuing its action against drug dealing in Pulwama, police arrested five drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
“Acting on specific information, Pulwama Police recovered 35 kilograms of Fukki from one drug peddler identified as Mohd Maqbool Wani son of Abdul Rehman, resident of Mitrigam. Case FIR No. 37/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pulwama,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
“Also, Pulwama Police arrested one notorious drug peddler identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, resident of Dalipora involved in supplying intoxicating injections among youth of the area. Large quantities of intoxicating injections & 15800 of sale proceeds of drugs have been recovered from his possession,” police said.
Besides documents recovered from his possession reveal the said drug peddler was maintaining saving accounts in SBI and J&K Bank with balance of more than ₹5.00 lacs which the police believes to be sale proceeds of illicit drug trade and got both the accounts freezed, the spokesman said.
“Further an i-10 vehicle bearing No. DL3CAQ-4882 used by the drug peddler for importing drugs from outside the state has also been seized. Case FIR No. 38/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Pulwama and investigation taken up,” it said.
Similarly, Pulwama Police during the intervening night of 15/16 March arrested two notorious drug peddlers identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Rasool and Shabir Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Akbar, both residents of Kunzipora Pulwama, as per the police statement.
“Large quantity of Fukki powder weighing 190 kilograms and various tools being used for grinding/refining poppy straw including grinder machine, digital weighing machine have been recovered from their possession,” the statement added.
The spokesman said that during preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the duo intended to transport this consignment outside the state. Case FIR No. 41/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Pulwama and investigation has been initiated.
Further, Police Station Kakapora has also arrested one drug peddler identified as Abdul Majeed Sheikh son of Mohd Ramzan, resident of Khadermoh and recovered 3.8 kilograms of cannabis from his possession. Case FIR No. 12/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Kakapora.
All the five drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to respective Police Stations where they remain in custody.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, police warned.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” police added.
