SRINAGAR — The former spokesman of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), an accused as per the police who was linked to a conspiracy and various criminal acts, including inciting anti-national sentiments and attempting a jailbreak, has surrendered to the authorities in Srinagar.
An official quoted by a local news agency said the accused Ali Mohd Lone, also known as Advocate Zahid Ali, son of Habibullah Lone, a resident of Nihama Pulwama, was named in case FIR No. 19/2019 under sections 13 UAP Act as well as 147, 148, 149, 336, 332, 427, 307, 435, 436, 120, 225 RPC at Police Station Rainawari. He turned himself in at the respective police station and was taken into custody on May 16, 2024.
Lone was allegedly involved in orchestrating criminal activities like arson, rioting, an attempted jailbreak, chanting anti-national slogans, and participating in stone-pelting incidents at Srinagar Central Jail back in 2019.
“Pertinently, Ali Mohd Lone previously served as the spokesperson for the outlawed group, Jamaat-e-Islami,” the official further added.
