KULGAM — Over 400 picnickers were stranded at famed Aharbal tourist spot after the encounter between militants and joint forces raged in the area.

Police halted the movement of over 400 civilians after the encounter while during late hours, police arranged over 40 vehicles to evacuate 430 civilians from the tourist spot.

A police official said that civilians were safely taken to an evacuation point under the armed protection of policemen and 40 vehicles were arranged for by Manzgam and Damhal Hanjipora Police Stations.

On Monday, a militant was killed in the area while police said that the operation is still in progress.

Pertinently, Aharbal tourist location falls under the jurisdiction of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
