Government forces during a CASO in Kashmir

SRINAGAR — Government forces and militants on Monday morning exchanged brief gunfire at Bidoora village in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Reports reaching here said that a joint team of Army’s 19 RR and SOG launched a cordon-and-search at Bidoora, Aknigam.

SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan said that the cordon was laid following a specific information about the presence of some militants in the area.

“As the joint team of forces intensified the searches, the militants opened fire leading to an encounter,” the officer said.

However, sources said that the militants opened fire upon the joint team of Army and SOG soon after the cordon. The fire was retaliated by the joint team and the brief exchange of fire continued for a brief time, they said.

The firing was stopped from both the sides as of now, they said.
