
BARAMULLA — Militants on Thursday fired at the forces during a search operation, triggering a fresh encounter while putting speculations to rest that the militants had managed to escape after brief shootout in Kalantara Kandi Kreeri village of Baramulla in north Kashmir.
Official sources said that 29 RR, SOG Kreeri and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation in Kalantara Kandi village following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
After the nine hours long CASO, hiding militants opened fire on joint party which triggered a brief shootout. Sources said that no firing has been heard from the last 20 hours and it was presumed that militants had managed to escape.
However, police officials confirmed that fresh contact was established with the militants and the gunfight has started afresh. He said that the whole area is under cordon and the intermittent firing is going on.
