SHOPIAN — Two militants have been killed in an encounter that raged between government forces and militants in Dragad area of Sugan hamlet in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Wednesday.

A senior police officer told the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two militants have been killed in the gunfight while as the search operation is on in the area.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar has said that one among the slain militant was involved in killing of a poor labourer at Litter area of Pulwama.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: One of the killed #terrorists has been #identified as Adil Ah Wani, active since 7/2020. He was #involved in #killing of one poor labourer at Litter #Pulwama. So far, 15 terrorists have been #neutralised in 2 weeks: IGP Kashmir,” Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.
