Injured SPO loses leg after being shot at in Pulwama

Srinagar: A special police officer (SPO) who was injured critically after fired upon by militants at Puchal area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening has lost his leg as it was amputated to save his life, a police spokesman said here on Wednesday.

However, the SPO, Aquib Wagay is stated to be stable and recovering at 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar.

The spokesman added, ”Wagay is recovering in hospital though his leg was amputated to save his life. We thank you all for the concern and blood donation which indeed played a key role in saving his life.”

Yesterday, gunmen had fired upon Aqib Wagay son of Abdul Ahad Wagay at Puchal village during evening.

In the incident, Wagay, a resident of Panzgam Awantipora, suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary had confirmed the incident to GNS. “Wagay was shot at by the suspected militants. He was working as an SPO in Awantipora,” SSP said.
