Internet suspended as gunfight rages in Sopore

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces after CASO was launched on late night of Wednesday in Arampora area of Teliyan Mohalla area of north Kashmir’s Sopore.

Reports said that a joint team of Police and Army’s 22RR launched cordon and search operation in Arampora area of Teliyan Mohalla after getting specific information about presence of some militants in the area.

After searching for hours, contact was established with militants after closing on to the targeted spot.

SSP Sopore Javiad Iqbal said that a brief exchange of firing occurred between militants and government forces after contact was established, he further said that firing has stopped right now but tight cordon is still intact.

Meanwhile, internet has been suspended in Sopore for precautionary measures. The exchange of fire was going on till this report was filed. (GNS)
