SRINAGAR — A JeM militant was killed in a brief shootout with the government forces in Kralgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night, police said.
Quoting an Army officer, news agency GNS said that the body of the militant was recovered along with a pistol and some grenades.
The officer said that the Army’s 32 RR came under fire while laying siege to Bader Payeen village late Wednesday night following inputs about the presence of militants.
The fire, he said was retaliated, leading to an encounter in which the militant was killed.
J&K Police said that the militant killed in the gunfight with the forces was affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad.
“Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militant,” said the spokesman.
From the incriminating materials recovered, it is understood that the slain was a Pakistani national, code named Anwar and was affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM, he said.
