SRINAGAR — Terming the introduction of new land law in J&K as betrayal, Kashmiri Pandits on Friday demanded rollback of new land laws in J&K introduced by the Central government.
The Central government on Tuesday had notified new land laws for Jammu and Kashmir that pave the way for any citizen of India to buy land in J&K.
Kashmiri Pandit activist, Ashok Kumar said that they feel betrayed by the introduction of this new land law.
“Land is an asset and heritage for the people of Jammu and Kashmir which should not be snatched from us. We are part of India and the Constitution is applied to Jammu and Kashmir as it applies to other States of the country. So, why is the need for snatching our land,” Kumar said.
He said that they follow and abide by the Constitution of India, but despite that stringent laws are being imposed on the people here. He said that the Central government should rollback the new land laws.
“Rather than implementing laws which are against the people, the Central government should focus on generating avenues of employment and promoting tourism of Jammu and Kashmir,” the activist said.
