
SRINAGAR — Body of a 20-year-old labourer, who drowned while extracting sand in river Jhelum near Kernabel Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama on Wednesday, was retrieved.
Official sources said that the labourer identified as Irshad Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh was extracting sand when he drowned near Samboora bridge. A number of locals had jumped into the river to save the youth. However, they could only retrieve his body after hectic searches, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the police took the body to the nearby facility for postmortem and it would be handed over to the family for last rites after formalities are completed, they added.
