ANANTNAG — A young pregnant woman died in south Kashmir after her family was unable to shift her to hospital due to prevailing lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir. The 26-year-old woman hails from Pir Panchal area.

Sources said that the said lady identified as Masrat Jan wife of Reyaz Ahmed Mughloo of Manzmoo area of Qazigund developed labour pain at her home. “She delivered a dead baby and after the delivery, her conditioned worsened. We tried to make use of helpline numbers, but those numbers didn’t work and then we had to carry the ailing woman all the way from the hilly terrain of Daulatabad to Manzmoh on a locally made stretcher and had to wait for around five hours for a vehicle that would take us to Qazigund Trauma Hospital,” said a relative of the woman.

They said that it was the delay that cost the life of young Masrat Jan. “We dialed several distress and helpline numbers but received no response,” said Reyaz Ahmed Mughloo, adding that her wife was shifted from Qazigund Trauma Hospital to Maternity Childcare Hospital.

A medico, on the condition of anonymity, said that it were her family members who didn’t take the matter seriously and put the lady in trouble. “She was serious and looked frail when admitted in the hospital. It is not fair to attribute the death of lady to medical negligence,” he said.
