LeT militant killed, another escapes in Hajin gunfight

Srinagar: A militant has been killed while as his associate managed to escape during an encounter in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday morning.

Official sources told GNS that one militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed and his associate managed to break the cordon amid intense clashes which broke out in the area soon after the gunfight ensued at Parra Mohalla, Hajin.

SSP Bandipora Sheikh Zulfikar Azad also confirmed the killing of the militant.

“One militant has been killed and his body along with a rifle was recovered,” Azad said, adding that the operation is still underway in the area.

He said that the identity of the slain is being ascertained.

Earlier, SSP had said that a joint search party of Army and police were fired upon by the militants soon after the search operation was launched in Parra Mohalla area of Hajin.

The fire was retaliated which resulted in the exchange of gunfire, he had said.

Meanwhile, authorities have snapped Internet service in Hajin and adjoining parts of Bandipora in the wake of the gunfight. (GNS)
