Srinagar: A CRPF man was injured on Tuesday in a militant attack in Newa area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Sources said that at around 12:45 AM today, militants lobbed a grenade and opened a volley of fire towards the joint camp of special operations group (SOG) of police and CRPF in Newa.
A CRPF trooper, the sources said, was wounded after being hit by a bullet. He was shifted to Army’s Badamibagh cantonment hospital in the capital city of Srinagar for treatment.
Soon after the attack, government forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the militants.
Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the outfit has started the process to avenge the killing of “commander Ali and other martyrs”.
“Our cadres carried out the sniper attack at 12:35 AM and killed two CRPF men,” the spokesman said, adding this is beginning of the process to avenge the killing of commander Ali and other martyrs.” (With GNS Inputs)
