Srinagar: Four militants and an Army Para commando have been killed in a fierce gunbattle between militants and government forces in Nadigam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A senior Police official said that four militants and one Army Para commando have been killed in the operation at Nadigam.
The officer said the identity of slain militants is being ascertained.
Earlier, predawn gunfight raged between militants and government forces in Nadigam area of Shopian.
Reports said that a joint team of Army’s 34RR, 23 PARA and SOG Shopian cordoned off Nadigam after having credible input about the presence of some militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter. (GNS)
